Welcome to ComputerWorld Canada’s Blogging Idol

Starting May 19, ComputerWorld Canada will be holding a contest to determine the country’s next great technology blogger. Here’s how it will work:

1. Contestants can register as a contestant on this site using the form on the right-hand side of the page. Once we’ve verified your information we will contact you with a unique user name and password to post to Blog Idol.

2. Each week contestants will be given a new topic or theme to blog about. Contestants will be able to post as often and at whatever length they choose. Topics will be chosen by the editors of IT World Canada.

3. We will ask judges to use the comments area to evaluate the quality of the posts based on the following criteria:
-writing ability
-IT industry expertise
-level of Canadian content
-SEO ability to link to other blogs, add rich media and make use of tools such as Digg, etc.

4. Readers will evaluate the posts using the blog engine’s rating feature, and once the contest is under way they will also be able to register as a fan of their favourite blogger. After four weeks, the blogger who has generated the most traffic will win $1,000 cash. The bloggers who has gotten the most fans to sign up will win the latest Nikon Coolpix digital camera. The blogger with the highest-rated posts (which have to be rated at least 10 times) will win a gift certificate to Chapters-Indigo.

We’re hoping Blog Idol will encourage members of the IT community who haven’t taken the plunge yet to give blogging a try, and to promote new voices in an ongoing conversation about improving the way technology is managed in Canadian companies. Best of luck to all who take part.
