Zenoss adds VMware monitoring
The latest version of agentless network management suite Zenoss Enterprise has number of enhancements, including native VMware monitoring across the full virtualization infrastructure lifecycle. Zenoss 2.3 now lets enterprise IT staff and cloud services providers to monitor their virtual and physical IT infrastructures with a single, integrated product that the company says costs significantly less than traditional offerings.
The improvements include automatic discovery and inventory of all Virtual Infrastructure (VI3) components including Virtual Machines, ESX Servers, clusters, and VMware data stores; the display of physical and virtual resource usage and performance; real-time detection when Virtual Machines move from one VMware host to another (called VMotion); and enhanced Windows collection services improve scalability, security and fault tolerance.
Zenoss also announced a new release of Zenoss Core, the community version of the suite. The new version includes modeling-based management using WMI (Windows Management Interface), new Windows Service monitoring, and 30 new drop-in management extensions, developed by Zenoss Community members, for systems such as Cisco Security Appliance and Brocade switches.
